As required after China's ratification of the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption in September 2005, Mother's Choice became an Accredited Body on January 25, 2006.  the Social Welfare Department of Hong Kong Government remains in its capacity as the Central Authority who oversees adoption in Hong Kong.

The Hague Convention, established on May 29, 1993, was created in recognition of the need to protect children in adoption and to ensure cooperation between intercountry adoption organizations.  Aware of the existence of illegal trafficking, abduction and sale of children around the world, the Convention is an international policy that seeks to protect children's safety and rights.

Brief History

In 1993, Mother's Choice began an adoption program to help waiting children with special needs in Hong Kong.  The program was first named “Overseas Adoption Service”.  As Mother's Choice began to provide more support for prospective adoptive families and families with adopted children living in Hong Kong, the program changed its name to “Adoption Services” on April 1, 2006.

Local and Intercountry Adoption

In collaboration with the Social Welfare Department of Hong Kong and partner adoption agencies in the United States, Mother's Choice works diligently to find adoptive families for waiting children under 16 years old with special needs. Starting in 2010, Mother's Choice also aims to find suitable adoptive homes for children awaiting adoption through a thorough suitability assessment (Home Study Assessment) of applicants who pursue local adoption in Hong Kong.
