Brief History
| 1993 |
“Overseas Adoption Service” was established to help waiting children with special needs in Hong Kong to find adoptive families.

| 2003 |
In response to the increasing need of prospective adoptive families and families who have adopted children in Hong Kong, regular classes on adoption parenting and adoption-related seminarswere created.

| 2006 |
As required after China’s ratification of the Hague Convention on the Protection of Children and Cooperation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption (“Convention”) in September 2005, Mother's Choice became an accredited body for intercountry adoption service on January 25, 2006. The Social Welfare Department of the Hong Kong Government is the Central Authority that oversees adoption in Hong Kong.
As Mother’s Choice began to provide more support for local prospective adoptive families and families who have adopted, the program changed its name to “Adoption Services” on April 1, 2006.

Since January 1, 2010, Mother’s Choice has been accredited to provide local adoption service conducting the home study process for applicants apply for local adoption in Hong Kong.

What is Adoption?
Adoption is the choice to parent a child who did not come to you by birth. It is the act (after a legal process) of providing a permanent family and home for a child who is unable to live with his or her birth parents or families. Adoption is not a one-time event but is a life-long journey for all involved.
Adoption Convention
The Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Cooperation in respect of Intercountry Adoption (“Convention”), established on May 29, 1993, was ratified in recognition of the need to protect children in adoption and to ensure cooperation between intercountry adoption organizations. Aware of the existence of illegal trafficking, abduction and sale of children around the world, the Convention is an international policy that seeks to protect children’s safety and rights. On September 16, 2005, China ratified the Convention and it came into force in China and became effective in Hong Kong on January 25, 2006.
