How many children does Mother’s Choice care for?
At Child Care Home we can give love and care to 35 to 40 infants and children at a time, well over 100 children during a year. In addition, we facilitate over 100 babies and older children being cared for in foster homes or small group homes until they can join an adoptive family or return to their birth family.
Where are the babies and children at Child Care Home from?
Most of the babies and children are awaiting adoption and are referred to us by hospitals or other social work organizations or from Mother’s Choice’s other services. They are under the guardianship of the Social Welfare Department.
How long do the children need to wait to be adopted?
Most of the children go home with adoptive family within 2 to 4 months. However, complexities and special situations may mean that some babies need to stay with us for a longer time before they may be adopted. It is always our goal to have them join a loving permanent family as soon as possible.
Why do some of the children need to wait longer?
Each child's case is different and the background situation can slow down the child’s process. Mother’s Choice and the Social Welfare Department work hard on each case to make sure each child can go home as soon as possible.
Where would the Child Care Home children go when they reach the age of 2 and 6?
Baby Care takes care of babies from newborn to 2 years. Nearly all of our babies go home with adoptive parents before they are 2 years old. Some of them will move temporarily to foster families to wait for a forever family.
Wee Care takes care of babies and children from 0-6 years old. About all will be in permanent adoptive homes before they are 6 years old. A few of them will move to foster families or boarding schools for children with special needs.
How can I help?
We have many wonderful volunteers who help us in Baby Care and Wee Care. We need extra hands in making quilts, preparing “life books” for babies and we need childcare experts in holding activity groups for babies and children, such as music, stories telling, arts and craft, percussion etc. You can also share your expertise in training our volunteers and staff or performing music concert to our babies and children.
